Six States and 17 Cities Declare Emergencies

Record 55 Million Infections Reported

Brazil is grappling with a severe outbreak of dengue fever, with at least six states and the Federal District declaring epidemics. As of now, 17 cities have also declared a state of emergency.

The country has exceeded its worst-case forecast for dengue cases this year, with a record 55 million infections registered. Health officials are sounding the alarm, as this outbreak is the largest in Brazil's history.

Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease that can be potentially fatal, is wreaking havoc in Brazil. Health workers are working tirelessly to eliminate standing water, which serves as breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

In 2024 alone, Brazil recorded 6,296,795 suspected dengue cases, with 3,040,736 laboratory-confirmed cases. These numbers far exceed those of any previous year.
